The POV of a Hacker

With the 21st century being a digital book, one only needs to know how to open and read it to learn, everything. In this age of technology, almost everyone knows what hacking is. The classic green text on a black screen is what all of us see in movies but, the real deal is somewhat different. In order to see through a hacker’s POV, one must first understand how a hacker thinks. Hackers are actually just normal people who took the phrase ‘Think outside the box' a bit too seriously. When a Cyberpunk gets down to business, the first thing they do is understand their environment, look for opportunities and above all, find loopholes. Discovering loopholes for a hacker is the same as showing a toddler all the candy in the world. Once done with the scouting and when they are content with the information they’ve gathered, the magic begins. From using every trick in the book like Metasploit and BEEF (a social engineering framework) to the intense ‘John The Ripper’ for cracking the hashed data passwords acquired, hackers take all the data leaving no door left closed and no rock left unturned. Almost every hacker leaves a backdoor in a system hacked by them since as Eric S. Raymond righty wrote in his book, ‘The New Hackers Dictionary', “No problem should ever have to be solved twice.”. For the people who do not know what a backdoor is, a backdoor is a term that refers to accessing a personnel’s hardware or software undetected. This helps the hacker regain access to a system without requiring them to go through the process of gaining access again. Once the damage has been dealt with, it is time for the hacker to delete their existence. Since it is so important to cover up footsteps, hackers usually carry out their work through remote systems located in different parts of the world. They do this by using tools like Tor and Anonsurf or simply changing their MAC address. Even though this appears pretty easy while reading, it is way harder than it seems. Being a hacker means that u need to be able to take risks since even just a spelling mistake in a word can alert the target system.

So the next time you see Q in a 007 movie or you see Elliot in Mr.Robot note, there’s more to them than meets the eye. And lastly, quoting Michael L. Ceorgoveanu, “Hackers are geniuses. Not because they are smart, but because they can control the whole world with a click of a button.”
