Nvidia and the duel of doubts.

The moment the tech giant Nvidia published a blog saying that they were going to reduce the hash rate on the RTX 3000 series cards(RTX 3060), the internet has had a storm of mixed opinions. From the YouTube god LinusTechTips saying that Nvidia doesn't care for its buyers to redditors saying that this change will help both gamers and miners.

Bitcoin mining put in simple terms means to crack computational puzzles to create new bitcoins. Now Bitcoin mining requires heavy machinery and the trend to use GPUs to carry out this process, has been going on for about 10 years now starting in October 2010, when the code of GPU mining was first released to the general public.

This trend grew on and took mining from just a hobby to an entire industry which made people buy GPUs mainly for Crypto mining purposes which was not the reason Nvidia was making them.

Observing this trend Nvidia has now announced their CMP HX lineup of cards which will be dedicated purely to crypto mining. This lineup includes 4 cards, 30HX, 40HX,50HX and the 90HX.

As per Nvidia, this new lineup neither does graphics nor does it have a display output and hence it does not meet the required specs to be counted as a GeForce GPU making the  GeForce GPUs available for the gaming crowd.

Now, many people are not very happy with Nvidia since they feel that the company is dictating what they should and should not do with the hardware they own. As per Nvidia, this change is going to make sure that the gaming cards end up in the hands they were meant to be in.
In my opinion, this will surely increase the chance of a gamer getting a GeForce card which is the main purpose why Nvidia is introducing the CMP lineup but this will be a downside to people who are multitaskers.

By this what I mean to say is that the people who do both gaming and occasional mining will now have to chose only one which might make a large number of them happy leading to a lack of interest in either one stream. For the Miners, they can either buy the CMP line up or, go back to the pascal series to continue their trade which to be honest, doesn't make sense. Overtime, the people might change their opinion seeing the effects this gets but for now, all we can do is to hope that we see a positive response to this change and a good effect of this decision.

Comment down your opinions and till next time, Cheers

  1. This an extremely idiotic choice from NVIDIA, there are numerous people out there who put such a lot of money in so they could game with better graphics and cryptomine in the night to bring in back some cash, dispatching the new arrangement of cards only for cryptomining is imbecilic and the 1060, known for being incredibly performant for a cheap price is being sequelled by this is disturbing. I'd rather just buy a 1080 or a 1060 over this at present.

    1. Since there hasn't been any protocol launched to restrict bitcoin exchange, things are going to continue the way they have been flowing till date. This change will only have an effect on the miners of bitcoin and not the traders
